The author
of this site and its contents is full of hope for the
world. That makes him a fool, but a pleasant one. Specifically speaking, the author is a smartass liberal secular humanist from the state of Oklahoma. On behalf of Oklahoma's dwindling reality-based community, he apologizes to the United States for Senators James "Global Warming Resembles Nazi Lies" Inhofe and Tom "Abortion Doctors Should Be Executed" Coburn. The author is also a teacher. In the event that students or employers who know his name find their way here from The Google, they will find nothing that he is embarassed to share with the Internet. He is sorry to disappoint them. The author will now stop speaking in third-person. 8/4/10 Update:
I have a strange work ethic, in that I have low motivation to
write when I'm not constrained by something else. This summer has been
a black hole of productivity for me. Still, I've been thinking hard
about future Aether Torrent episodes, and I have two new additions to
the Illustrations page: some commissioned artwork from Otakon, which took place last weekend.
6/21/10 Update: You ought to know by now that my "soon" is always on Valve Time. Regardless, the World section has been touched up in general and updated in specific with the Geography page, revealing the (rough) physical layout of the world of Aether Torrent. Enjoy. 6/7/10 Update: The standardized version of Aether Torrent episode 3 is complete. As a bonus, I've added to the elementalism page in the World section. Expect more World updates soon; I've been worldbuilding like crazy lately. 5/18/10 Update: Time flies. Especially when absorbed by testing, video games, and a redraft of Aether Torrent episode 2. Adding more, polishing more, and making it amount to a solid 21 minutes turned out to be quite fun. More to come. 4/11/10 Update: Three years ago, give or take a few days, I began my initial assembly of the parts which became Aether Torrent. Now I have redrafted the first episode to make it much closer to a standard TV episode length. I'll be doing that for the whole series, episode by episode, until all of them are of similar length. This means a near-doubling of the content in some of the scripts, particularly the earlier ones. Will I be done with it all this year? I'd certainly like to be, but I have many other priorities. I hope you continue enjoying my little project. I sure do. 3/6/10 Update: My time for the past month has been spent on job-hunting, book-reading, game-playing, and a week-long trip to Orlando with my girlfriend. I think now I can get cracking on redrafting most of Aether Torrent to truly fit a standard time scale. In the meantime, my younger sister kindly provided an addition to the Illustrations page. Good for her. 2/4/10 Update: I can hardly believe it. Aether Torrent has reached the end of a season. Or is that a second season? At any rate, after over two and a half years, the 26th episode is up. It's a fine place for me to pause while I think of the next 26 (and take a magnifying glass and a can of polish to those I've written before). I hope you've enjoyed my work thus far. 1/23/10 Update: The Good and Bad cast lists have been updated, the former with a few new pictures and the latter with a little restructuring, which includes removing some spoilers. That is all. 1/22/10 Update: Aether Torrent has reached its 25th episode, and I swear it times out to 21 minutes. One more episode and the second season is done, hooray! There is also a new image in the Illustrations page. It is adorable. 12/30/09 Update: Happy New Year, and happy new Aether Torrent episode. I did something in this script that was, for me, innovative: I timed all the scenes to fit a standard episode length rather than rely on the old "one page, about one minute" rule. Once the season is done, I intend to go back and adjust every previous episode to fit down to the minute. You know, just to do it. 11/25/09 Update: November has been a slow month in terms of subbing. As such, Aether Torrent #23 took nine days. #24 may take longer, as I'll be getting a new computer very soon. At any rate, two episodes in a month is rare for me. Yay for productivity. 11/9/09 Update: I had practically no paying work this week, so I used the time to put Aether Torrent #22 together in eight days. As a result, the good guys and illustrations have been updated. 11/4/09 Update: The long-absent Illustrations page for Aether Torrent has been added. There are pictures in it. 10/24/09 Update: The bulk of Aether Torrent #21 was devised in recent weeks and written in the past 24 hours. The Good and Bad pages have been updated accordingly. 9/24/09 Update: Though paying work has taken priority, Aether Torrent #20 is finished. Fight scenes go by quickly. 8/20/09 Update: Aether Torrent #19 is finished after more rewrites than I care to describe. The bad guys have been updated accordingly. If you would like to draw some of my characters, be sure to drop me a line so I can see about including them here. 8/13/09 Update: I've given the Other Writings page a much-needed reorganizing, up to and including merging the Plays page into it. A couple more items are there as well, plus general cleanup to the whole site. Also, Aether Torrent #19 is slowly, slowly, slowly coming together after several cycles of building up and smashing down. This is why I haven't made a career of writing. 7/23/09 Update: The Good and Bad pages have been updated, mostly with mugshots. Images help characterization so much. 7/6/09 Update: Time passes and I barely notice. Probably because I've dumped a bunch of it into Aether Torrent episode #18. Good thing I'm treating this series as an OVA, or scripts like this one would be slashed for their added length. 6/16/09 Update: Ah, summer. A time for lazy job-hunting, anime-watching, game-playing... and writing Aether Torrent episode #17. 4/23/09 Update: My student teaching is finished. Aether Torrent episode #16 is as well, with appropriate additions to the Good and Bad cast. 3/14/09 Update: And I'm back up to speed. Aether Torrent episodes #8-15 have had touch-ups to make everything more consistent. Episode 10 had so many here and there, it's almost another draft. New episodes will come when they come. 2/24/09 Update: I had some moments of free time and did some of that additional sanding. This time it's to episodes 4-7. Enjoy. 2/2/09 Update: Minor update, but worth noting: I sanded some rough edges off Aether Torrent episodes #1-3. More sanding to previous episodes shall most assuredly come. (It's about the only thing I have time for now that I'm student teaching full-time -- and it needs doing.) 1/23/09 Update: Okay, so I lied about "soon." Student teaching is a magnificent siphon of time and energy. Still, some tweaks have been made to the Good and Bad guys, and a little bit to Zoology. Pictures are involved. 1/8/09 Update: Aether Torrent episode #15 was actually finished yesterday, but I've been busy. Expect more updates soon. 11/28/08 Update: Aether Torrent episode #14 is up after many delays. Only a couple of which involve turkey. 10/25/08 Update: Aether Torrent episode #13 is up after five rewrites. Appropriate changes have been made to the Good and Bad guys. This delay has been brought to you by homework and Mother 3. 10/13/08 Update: Of all things, I've done another essay worth sharing in this space. Aether Torrent #13 is finally shaping up to be awesome after a couple less-awesome rewrites. College-related projects slow its momentum, however. Stay tuned. 9/13/08 Update: I spent literally fourteen hours of yesterday writing the bulk of Aether Torrent episode #12. I attribute that to having a sudden and unexpected lull in homework which will probably not repeat itself for some time. And with a little of today's time, I did some updates all around the site. Well, mostly all around. "Plays" and "Other Writings" remain untouched. 8/17/08 Update: If good scripts are re-written, then Aether Torrent episode #11 is an excellent script. I can't begin to tell you how many times I combed it, so I won't. I also did some minor updating to the Good and Bad guys. 7/22/08 Update: I am suspicious of how easily Aether Torrent episode #10 came together. Maybe because it's a page shorter than usual. Ah, heck, I don't mind. The second half of this two-parter should compensate, whenever it is that I finish it. 7/5/08 Update: Holy damn, I finally finished Aether Torrent episode #9. Summer classes and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 are cruel mistresses both, but as with the previous episode, I wanted to get this one just right. Also, there are minor updates to the Good and Bad pages to keep things up-to-date. 5/13/08 Update: A little updating done to Aether Torrent's Good-guys and Bad-guys, plus entries for ketzalrals and lurutts in the zoology section. 5/12/08 Update: Aether Torrent episode #8 is up, now that I'm free of this semester. I realize I have the update schedule of a lethargic Dresden Codak, but I wanted to get this one just right. If I didn't, I sure came close. 3/30/08 Notice: I now know where the plot of Aether Torrent is going and more or less how it will end. The good news is, this means I won't write myself into a corner. The bad news is, I have another damn research paper and several tests to do before I can devote more time to moving Aether Torrent along. Just so you know. 3/9/08 Update: Aether Torrent episode #7 is up after three or four days of solid work performed in a fleeting window of free time. With that free time I also performed minor updates to every previous episode -- a line here, a punctuation mark there. Read them all again at your leisure, if you wish. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go play the hell out of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. 12/21/07 Update: Aether Torrent's World section is up, with pages on elementalism and zoology. Geography to come, on some future day. 12/18/07 Update: A couple things today, another thing coming soon. Most important is Aether Torrent episode #6, completed after a long long delay. The rest is some updating to the Good and Bad sections of Aether Torrent. The future thing is an update to its "World" section, by which I mean the creation of its "World" section. 11/28/07 Notice: Homework is a black hole of great circumference, espeically when one learns the teaching profession. Despite that, I've gotten started on Aether Torrent #6. Stay tuned. 9/23/07 Update: Where does the time go? Into homework, of course. And Aether Torrent episode #5. 9/9/07 Notice: In two months I have been to a major anime convention, returned to college to become a teacher, had a birthday and obtained a Nintendo Wii. Needless to say, I've been distracted, but Aether Torrent #5 is taking shape. My diminished free time makes it a slow go, but it's still going. Stay tuned. 7/9/07 Update: Aether Torrent episode #4 is up, with a little bit more updating to the Aether Torrent page. 6/24/07 Update: The third episode of Aether Torrent is up, plus there are some updates to the Aether Torrent page itself. 6/13/07 Update: The second episode of Aether Torrent is up -- and I've made a decision. I have given up hopes of deriving a career from anything on this site. I want to be a teacher. This means that anything I post here will be simply for my amusement and yours -- and that I can have more fun writing in general. Aether Torrent promises to be quite a lot of long-term fun to write, so expect more of it. That is all. 5/29/07 Update: First episode of Aether Torrent is up. I'm experiencing a surge of New Project Love combined with RPG Nerdity. |
