| The Noir Body
Count If you were to ask me and many others, Noir doesn't get the respect it deserves. Reasons why could fill a whole other list. In the interest of drawing a bit more respect to Noir, I decided to focus on and by numbers illustrate an aspect in which it excels: killing people. What follows is an act-by-act, episode-by-episode breakdown of how many people died and who killed how many people over the course of the series. "M", "K", and "C" naturally stand for Mirielle, Kirika and Chloe. "Other" stands for anyone other than they, including named characters of substantial importance (Altena, Uncle Claude, etc.) In the case of flashbacks, I only count kills for the first episode in which we clearly see the perpetrator. Let's begin. |

Notes: 10. The True Noir: At least two cops are unaccounted for in the second act. If their arrangement just before the shootout was twelve to both sides of the library instead of twelve to one and ten to the other (due to the camera angle), there should have been at least 24 present; if so, that's four cops unaccounted for. One thing's for sure, though: they're dead. Both Mirielle and Kirika fired a total of seven shots each without corresponding death-grunts, and the crooked cops didn't strike me as very slippery. Even if the unaccounted-for cops managed to escape, there was always Chloe. 12. Assassination Mission: I counted the two guys Zellner had taken away in Act 1 despite them not being shown dead. It wasn't necessary to see them die, anyway. 13. Season of Hell: Another kill-by-proximity for Mirielle. 16. The Cold-Blooded Killer, Acte II: Whew. Remarkably, all present at the temple shootout are accounted for. Of 37 standing before Kirika in the second camera pan of the stairs, two escaped. 19. The Two Hands of the Soldats: There's no way to tell how many Kirika killed when she fired a total of seven shots offscreen. Mirielle's second kill really wasn't, unless you can kill a man with a kick to the stomach. He stayed down, though, so I gave her credit anyway. I counted twelve bodies in and (more easily) after Kirika and Chloe's mutual assistance. It seemed like they shared the burden equally, so I credited them with six each. 20. The Sin Within the Sin: In addition to their more clearly-seen kills, Mirielle and Kirika shot down eight Knights of Paris between them. I split them evenly and assumed that the three around Kirika post-shootout were seperate. 22. Journey's End: I only counted the visible dead. To hell with trying to count every single villager and soldier, I say; that could have gone into the tens of dozens. 26. Birth: Five additional nuns dead with no way of telling how many were shot by whom. I split them between the two and gave Mirielle the odd one for the heck of it. |
